Out of the woodshed, into the sun...

"Woodshedding" is a term used by musicians to mean rehearsing a difficult passage repeatedly until it can be performed flawlessly. "The woodshed" in metaphor means any private place to practice without being heard by anyone else, based on the assumption that an actual woodshed would likely be in a remote location, away from the main house. - Wikipedia

This winter put so many and so much of us to the test. While fattened woodland critters got to sleep their way through the shortest days and longest nights of the year, many musicians found themselves out in the woodshed. Getting better at difficult passages.

Although I was among them, my shed was comprised more of audio gear than wood.  I spent the winter taking advantage of the dedicated mentorship of Featherburn fiddle player Chris DeVitry (Bon Accord Studio) to help me turn my upstairs front room into a home recording station. With his guidance I rearranged furniture, borrowed Sam’s midi keyboard and hung sound treatment on the walls. I procured a new digital audio workstation for my Mac, working cables for my audio interface, a pair of high def monitor speakers, a good mic, and I began to grind away at learning the basics of audio engineering. Deep gratitude to Chris for his time and presence at every turn to help make it a productive season. And with the aid of Chris’ fiddle, Greg Walker’s drumming and Will Galliano’s bass, we're emerging from the woodshed feeling triumphant with new music. More specifically, we’re releasing good bundle of single tunes, starting on Friday the 23rd with a Featherburned rendition of The Beatles’ Here Comes the Sun. Here’s a preview clip from the video:
