Camp Featherburn 2024

Here's hoping that you either enjoy the heat, or you're in a nice cool place. With summer now undeniably upon us, it's hard for me not to contemplate. I tend to experience my most enjoyable self-reflection during times of transition. Graduations. Moving to another town. Getting ready to start a new job. Finishing out a big production. And, for the teacher in me, the start of summer break.

I spent the majority of last summer producing our album Camp. On really unglamorous, bug-eyed computery things like recording and quantizing instrument tracks, volume equalization, rendering wav files for mixing and mastering, file sharing, managing a very large song track spreadsheet, formatting album artwork, compiling liner notes, and likely a dozen other similarly tedious and ongoing tasks that I'm shutting out from my memory. Essential work, but not what I'd call summer fun. In fact, it's hard not to look back and wince at the lack of more soulful activities of the warm season, like appreciating sunsets, kayaking, swimming in lakes, bike rides, trampoline bouncing, and road trips to see friends and family.

I was lucky, though. Lucky to have the help of my teammate Chris DeVitry, who mixed a fabulous compilation of stories, soundscapes and songs that we finished BARELY in time to print and share at our first Camp Featherburn festival, together with the sweat and generous hospitality of our friends at Chiques Rock Outfitters.

The mid-September 2023 weekend event was lovely. Hiking, cycling, boating, jams, food & drink with friends and family, camping. And of course, a night of great bands. After it was all said and done though, I couldn't help but look forward to what it might become next year.

Which brings us to today. Here we are and here we go. Camp Featherburn 2024 will be held over Friday-Sunday, September 13-15, coming with a bolstered lineup of bands and a bunch of new fun.
